So just what is Systems Analysis and Systems Design anyway?

Systems Analysis is the systematic study of the information needs and problems of some organizational domain in order to recommend improvements and specify the business requirements for the solution, and Systems Design is the specification of a technical, computer-based solution for the business requirements identified in a systems analysis.

There are four key phases to the Systems Analysis and Design Lifecycle:

1: Analysis includes the following set of documents

  • Scope and Objectives
  • Requirements Definition
  • Release Strategy
2: Design includes the following set of documents
  • Process Design
  • Database Design
  • User Interface Design
3: Construction/Testing Cycle includes the following set of documents and deliverables
  • Technical Design
  • Coding/Unit Testing
  • User Procedures and Manuals
  • User Procedures and Manuals
  • System Testing
  • User Acceptance Testing
4: Implementation includes the following set of procedures
  • Data Conversion
  • User Training
  • Installation and User Acceptance
  • Production Support
